An International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), a Doula and Postpartum Doula and a Holistic-Attachment Sleep Consultant, Maya has been accompanying thousands of families for over a decade on their journey toward calm, confident, and attuned parenthood.
With extensive experience from Lis Maternity and Women’s Hospital at Ichilov Tel Aviv, and UMASS Memorial Hospital in Worcester, alongside her private practice, Maya brings a unique blend of professionalism, sensitivity, and personal experience. She is deeply committed to empowering parents and infants from the very first moments of life.
In order to become certified as an IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant), you must take and pass the international board exam. The IBLCE organization sets several prerequisite requirements for exam eligibility:
1. Completion of a 95-hour Lactation Education Course: This is the course we offer. The HEAL Academy course covers all the topics required by the IBLCE and prepares you to successfully pass the international exam.
2. Completion of 8 College-Level Courses: You must complete courses in the following subjects: Anatomy, Physiology, Biology, Infant/Child Growth and Development, Nutrition, Psychology/Counseling/Communication, Sociology/Cultural Anthropology, and Statistics. These can be taken online as a package or individually through various university websites. You may also use credits from previous academic studies.
3. Completion of 6 Continuing Education Courses: These are shorter courses focusing on specific professional topics such as Medical Documentation, Medical Terminology, and Occupational Safety and Health. These can be purchased as a bundle from various international providers.
4. First Aid Certification: You must complete a basic Life Support (First Aid) course.
5. 500 Clinical Practice Hours: You are required to complete 500 hours of clinical internship (mentorship) under the direct supervision of a certified IBCLC. At HEAL Academy, we assist our students in finding placements and connecting with mentors for their clinical hours. We also offer online mentorship programs.
An IBCLC is a professional who has been certified by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) after successfully passing their certification exam after completing the requirements to take the exam (such as a 95 hour lactation education course, 500 clinical hours, college level courses, and first aid). In contrast, a Breastfeeding Counselor, or breastfeeding support person is someone who has completed a 95-hour lactation training course.
Attachment-based sleep consulting sanctifies the bond between parent and child. This approach emphasizes the evolutionary normal sleep patterns of a baby. An attachment-based sleep consultant guides parents through sleep challenges without causing crying or stress for the parents or the baby. In the attachment approach, changes to the sleep routine can be made without harming the parent-child bond and without the baby crying. Our graduates are invited to guest lectures in the courses in subsequent years, so that they receive an abundance of enrichment lectures and continuing education. Additionally, graduates receive professional guidance from the course instructors even after graduation.
Upon completing any one of our courses, you will be able to start your career. In the field of lactation you can practice as a lactation supporter but it is recommended to complete your clinical hours and other requirements so that you may become certified as an IBCLC.
